this is a little bit like inventing a calculator, but the calculator is proprietary so everyone in the world has to go to your building to use the one really big calculator. the lines are massive so you have to spend millions building a disney fast pass system and all the while you’re freaking out because you’re spending $700,000 a day in electricity and water to cool down the calculator radiating heat like the sun because 800 million people are using it to write work emails and draw boobs
the thing about AI is now that it’s made it cannot be unmade. elon’s OpenAI has tried to close the floodgates as much as possible and make it proprietary but this is going to explode on them - especially since the AI isn’t getting that much more sophisticated, it’s just adapting to more and more massive training models. there’s going to be a dip in usage when people stop pretending the information retention failure isn’t possible to ignore, but AI is going to be a tool forever now; hence the calculator metaphor. AI art in particular is a hot topic because of how scary it sounds but in a world where AI is actually implemented realistically and not for flashiness and investor funds it’s going to be relegated to the realm of boring administrative writing and sanitized corporate clip art.
